Hans-Christoph Mauruschat

The Berlin music manager, musician and publicist Hans-Christoph Mauruschat comes from a family of musicians. After studying in Vienna and Berlin, he began his career as a violinist and freelance orchestral musician before assuming the management of the Hans Sommer Archive in Berlin, a private library of music manuscripts, autographs and other rarities as first editions, in 1999.

He devoted himself for some ten years to evaluating the extensive and little known historical inventory and published compositions by Hans Sommer (1837-1922) as well as introducing newly discovered manuscripts of works by Gluck, Pergolesi, Telemann and the Bach family. He led archive projects for the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Vienna and Berlin state operas and other institutions. Lastly, he edited twenty of Hans Sommer's orchestra songs for the Vienna publisher Universal Edition. The resulting CD release received international awards like the Diapason découverte in France and the Excellentia Award of Luxembourg's Pizzicato magazine.

From 2002 to 2006, Mauruschat additionally managed the Bebersee chamber-music festival (near Berlin) founded by the pianist and 1st prize Reine Elisabeth winner Markus Groh, before assuming executive management of the Lucerne Festival Strings in May 2009.
