He began studying the violin at the College of Music in Sofia, going on in 1997 to study in Switzerland, receiving his soloist's diploma from the Berne College of Music and Drama in 2003.
In addition to his concert and soloist's diploma in the violin, he holds an MA in conducting from the Zurich College of Arts. He has conducted numerous renowned orchestras, among them the Berne Symphony Orchestra, the South-West German Philharmonic in Constance, the Biel Symphony Orchestra, the Musikkollegium of Winterthur, the Collegium Musicum Basel, the San Juan Symphony Orchestra (Argentina) and the Sofia Symphony Orchestra. His conducting development has been supported and influenced by celebrated conductors like Bernard Haitink, Ralf Weikert, Jesùs Lòpez-Cobos, Peter Eötvös and Stefan Asbury.
Droujelub Yanakiew conducts the Zug Youth Orchestra, the Variaton Orchestra of Berne, the Cappella dei Giovani and the Santa Maria Orchestra of Lucerne.
Droujelub Yanakiew has given solo performances with several symphony and chamber orchestras in various countries, and has taken part in recordings for Bulgarian Radio, Bulgarian State Television and Radio Suisse Romande. He teaches a violin class at the Zug Music School.
Droujelub Yanakiew lives with his wife and children Milo and Juna in Berne.
